Recommended products:
Anthrax (Bacillus anthracis) biological spore screening device:
"Best in Class" product - Ceeker biological spore screener from Veritide Ltd.
Screening for biological spores such as Bacillus anthracis that causes anthrax is a primary need for first responders.
The Ceeker is quite unique in its capabilities because it is simple, accurate, fast, very rugged, does not
destroy the sample and requires no chemicals. The technology uses ultra-violet light to identify biological
spores. Contact us at info@cbrnetechnologies.com to schedule a demonstration.
Evaluation based on live spore testing performed by Midwest Research Institute.
X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) hand-held elemental analysis:
"Best in Class" product - Thermo Scientific NITON analyzers
XRF identifies percent and ppm levels of elements such as lead, arsenic, mercury, cadmium, bromine, chromium, zinc,
gold, etc. in soils, paint, powders, metals, plastics, water, sludge and almost any other solid or liquid. It can
be used as a complimentary technology to FTIR or Raman spectroscopy. XRF determines the elemental composition that
cannot be identified using FTIR or Raman spectroscopy. Identification is very simple (point and shoot), instantaneous,
non-destructive and requires no special sample preparation. The technology uses x-rays to energize the sample.
The detector measures the energy given off by electrons which it associates with specific elements.
Contact us at info@cbrnetechnologies.com to schedule a demonstration of the instrument anywhere on the planet.
Evaluation based on head to head testing performed by the CBRNE Technologies and the US EPA.

Emergency Characterization of Unknown Materials is the best reference
book I have seen for detailed (but not too technical) information about all the hazardous materials emergency responders
face. It is written by Rick Houghton, a retired Captain with the Lansing, Michigan Fire Department. There is a
fabulous section with descriptions and information on all of the detection/identification technologies on the market.
This is a "must have" for high level HazMat Technicians. Click on the link below to purchase this book through Amazon.
The Pocket Reference for Hazardous Materials Response is a great "true"
pocket reference (4" x 6") for dealing with HazMat incidents. It is written by Dr. Chris Weber (Dr. Hazmat). Chris is a PhD biochemist as well as a retired 20+ year veteran firefighter/HazMat technician and
former Deputy Director of the Washtenaw County (MI) Hazardous Materials Response Team. It is designed to be used
on the scene with well organized sections on Incident Management, container and markings identification, identification by
physical and chemical properties (including tables on the really bad stuff), Incident Operations, decon, mitigation techniques
and demobilization. Very thorough. Click on the link below to purchase this book through Amazon.
HazMatIQ - training course and charts - www.hazmatIQ.com
HazMatIQ is a simple process of determining the basic hazards of chemicals using the name of the chemical and the periodic
table of elements. It consists of a set of four laminated charts. If the periodic table of elements is intimidating,
you should purchase these charts and go through the training. On-site training is available from Cris Aguirre (Miami
Dade Fire Dept.) and Joe Gorman (Fairfax County VA Fire and Rescue).
